During my 50 year career in business I found time, periodically, to work in stained glass, needlework, photography, and painting. When I retired, I was captivated by the possibilities of knitting and felting. Inspired by the stunning colors and textures of commercial and hand-dyed wools and novelty yarns, I began to knit and felt sculptural vessels, wall hangings, and other items. I work with each vessel while itʼs wet, sculpting it into its final shape. Each finished piece suggests embellishments (needle-felting, beads, turned wood, and other additions) which enhance the individual shapes, textures, and hues, and which complete the transformation of each into a work of art. Since attending a workshop on resist dyeing given by Chad Alice Hagen, my mind has been swimming with ideas for using this uniquely-dyed felt to create jewelry and to incorporate into larger felted pieces. My Presentation Pins, the first in a new line of resist dyed jewelry, can enhance a garment or be displayed as object dʼart on a small easel and canvas. I have exhibited at: Columbusʼ Winterfair, 2007, 2008 and 2009; Upper Arlington Labor Day Arts Festival, 2008 and 2009; Orchard Lake Fine Art Show, 2008 and 2009; Crocker Park Fall Fest and Fine Art Fair, 2008 and 2009; Ann Arbor Summer Fair 2009; St. James Court in Louisville, KY in 2009; Charlotte NC Fine Art Show 2008; plus a number of additional shows in Ohio and Michigan My work has been included in three shows at Worthingtonʼs High Road Gallery in 2008 and in the art offered at Ursus on Fishinger Road in Columbus. I am a member of the Guild of Artists and Artisans (Ann Arbor, MI), and the Ohio Designer Craftsmen. I am also a member of the Clintonville Arts Guild. Share this on Facebook |
